Christmas bells are ringing

I think it's going to be that much easier (read: cheaper) to go to Chicago for Christmas than it will be to go home. I can take Amtrak, and while it may be a hell of a day on the train (about 20 hours), it's only about $200 for a round trip. Not bad. I highly doubt I could fly for that. Besides, if I take a laptop with lots of dvd's, plenty of books, a journal, and hope for an interesting seat companion, I can keep myself occupied, right? I mean, I did Eurail all over Europe, including some lengthy overnight stints. Not 20 hours, but it's not unmanageable, right?

At any rate, it's not set in stone yet. I'm just looking into some options. I don't want to wait too long, or prices will be sky-high (that close to Christmas? Come on!), but I can't commit to any solid plans quite yet.

I guess this is my first real New-York-related post, isn't it? Everything else up to here has been test entries or other setup kinds of things. None of which I'm quite finished with, but I'm getting there.
