Worth your weight in gold

Okay--one more TV post, and then I'm done. For today.

Putting Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars together might just be the smartest decision that CW is making. These two shows both have very vocal, very committed, very fanatic fanbases, and from the boards today, I've seen that there's quite a contingent from each show that are planning to add the other one to their must-see viewing. They're similar enough shows (from what I know) that they'll compliment each other and make a great night. As Alexis Bledel and Kristen Bell themselves said today, "Two Logans on one night!" It'll be the fight for the hottest Logan!

I've heard from many, many GG viewers that they're going to try and catch up on 2 seasons of VM over the summer to get ready for fall, and there are already some brave VM fans who are going to try and tackle 6 seasons of GG to get up to speed! Fortunately for them, ABCFamily's syndicated reruns just started at season 1, so they're ahead of the game there.

I'll be joining the ranks, I think. Janna has promised me (or I've promised her? I'm not sure) a 2-season VM marathon when I get back, so that I'll be ready for season 3 to start. I watched one episode this season, and even without knowing the cast, the back stories, or even the season's story arc, I was drawn in enough to be interested in watching more.

So--despite their terrible, terrible lineup (in many cases), this is a good thing.

And, just for fun, let's continue the Everwood vs. 7th Heaven list. Feel free to add your own in the comments!

  • Consistently strong acting for 4 seasons vs. Some strong scenes, but overall, a soapy quality to the acting

  • Plotlines and story arcs that have affected the show for the entire series vs. Too many tangents to keep track of

  • Characters that develop and grow organically, as a result of the aforementioned arcs vs. Flat characters that haven't gone as far

  • Topical episodes that fit into the overall storyline and feel organic vs. Topical episodes that seem contrived and forced, and sometimes preachy

  • At least half the episodes have me choking up, sometimes with tears running down my face, by the end vs. I don't think I've ever cried, and I cringe more often than not

  • A series synopsis that seems too cheesy to be good... but surprisingly isn't vs. A series synopsis that seems too cheesy to be good... and that's it

  • Sent to TWoP's "Permanent Hiatus" (they don't review it any more) because it was too well-written and well-acted, and they couldn't find enough to snark about vs. Sent to PH because there wasn't enough good stuff to fit around the snark

Okay--it's supper time. I've gotta run and get some supper into Lourenzo.

*sob* Bring back my Everwood, please? Please? I'm begging you!

(But the rest of you, who can't do anything about that, please keep my list going!)

And apparently, I can't leave well enough alone, because this is about the 4th time I've edited this post with new things to say. For a good response, however, check out Ausiello's interview with Dawn Ostroff at the CW Upfront today. Not cool. Not cool. That interview is actually making me very, very angry right now. Not just upset about the cancellation, but flat-out teed off at Dawn and the CW execs. Read the comments, though--there are some verrrry interesting observations there. Especially a couple of the links that the commenters left. Click on them.

I was going to rant about 7th Heaven coming back for an 11th season, but you pretty much summed it up. Although, after the worst series finale in history (except for that show that ended up all being a dream), there are a lot of loose ends that need to be tied up. (not that I'll lose sleep over it or anything).

What's wrong with you?! 7th Heaven is... tripe. It's one of the most overdone shows on TV, and its time has come. It had its day, but there are just some shows that need to end when they do. 7th Heaven is the prime example. Honestly--where else are they going to go with their plots? It won't be pretty, and I'll bet that Dawn Ostroff is seriously disappointed in its showing on her new network. Not the kind of kick-off I'd want, but hey--that's just me.

PS--right now, I'm denying that I'm related to you.
